Snapshot Sunday

So I took a staycation for spring break, which also means I took a vacation from this. These photos are not from the week that is finishing today, but from the week prior to that. Enjoy these little moments from the week that was.

March Door Decor

1-IMG_2169

This is a wreath I made last spring using a tissue paper flower kit from the now defunct Whimsy Box.  Whimsy Box was a monthly craft kit subscription box, which was fun while it lasted.

I love the way the tissue flowers go so well with my new wallpaper.  I am not sure if I will make a special wreath or door decoration for Easter. If don’t have time I think this helps celebrate spring just fine.

Snapshot Sunday

Yesterday I had thought this uploaded, but I was wrong. Here is the photos from the week, a little late, but no less enjoyable especially because there are so many signs of spring coming up all over.

Upcycled Bookcase

3-IMG_2160

A few weeks ago I posted a picture of a bookcase I was upcycling in a “what I am working on” post.  The bookcase was finished not too long ago and so now it is ready to share.

When I moved into my condo a little over a year ago I only had bedroom furniture and nothing else.  I was lucky enough to have very generous family and friends who shared some furniture.

the boring before

This bookcase came from a friend who was moving at the same time.  I took it, but didn’t have a good use/place for it until recently.  I tucked it into my dining room and it sat mostly forgotten. It collected dust and items for charity, but when I moved around things in my living room I decided it was the perfect place to store my cookbooks.

The only problem is the wood finish doesn’t match my other furniture and was a little beat up.

I decided to paint it white using Martha Stewart Vintage Decor Paint in wedding cake (white).  The white coordinates with my trim and radiator cover.  It also helped the bookcase pop against the dark blue walls of the dining room.  The vintage decor paint (it is just like chalk paint) goes on so smoothly with almost no prep.  I love it.

To help bring in a bit of whimsy and coloring of the kitchen I used the wallpaper from my backsplash to line the back of the bookcase.

It was a very quick upgrade and I love the look. I am so happy with the way it turned out I might even move some furniture around to give it a more prominent place in the room.

Let me know what you think in the comments.  If you have used the vintage decor paint too I would love to hear about  what projects you have done with it.

Snapshot Sunday

This was a busy week. I don’t usually make plans for six out of the seven nights, but that is how it worked out. I will say that seeing lots of family and friends make being so busy 100% worth it.

Snapshot Sunday

This week was all about the weather. It was so lovely here that my winter coat stayed in the closet one day.  It was so nice to have  a taste of spring even if that did include some crazy furious winds.

Thanks for stopping by.

Brunch Salad Recipe

1-IMG_2157

I’ve been hosting quite a few brunches and early lunches lately, which has been fun. At the last 3 I’ve served the same salad, which was very well received. I decided to share it here, but it isn’t really really a recipe. It is so basic, but fits in well with most brunch/menus with really no work. All I have been doing is topping a mix of lettuce (I like a blend of spinach and mixed baby greens) with homemade cherry almond coconut granola, and adding additional dried fruit (specifically golden raisins and cranberries), and finish it with a sweet balsamic dressing (the one I used in my farro salad is perfect).

2-IMG_2158

I like that it involves no additional chopping or cutting and has a great flavor & texture.  I wanted to come up with a simple salad that did not require any cheese because generally something else I am serving has cheese as a main component (something like a strata, quiche, or blintzes).

If you’re wondering about quantities I have not measured this when I’ve thrown it together (a very common theme in my cooking). Next time I make it I will measure and update with a ratio of  lettuce to granola.

I would love to hear about any favorite brunch & lunch salads you love to serve.
